A great way to get out of the house as the cold weather approaches is by visiting a Christmas market. What better way to get outside and get into the Christmas spirit? Christmas markets are a fun and easy way to get the kids outside to make lasting memories this holiday season. Let them explore the market and everything it has to offer, like hot drinks, admiring the lights and decorations, playing games, trying warm Christmas treats, and listening to carolers! It’s also a great place to have a more sustainable Christmas, where you can pick up some local and handmade gifts. Go tobogganing

If you grew up in a place with snow, it's likely that one of your favourite childhood memories during the wintertime is racing down a hill in your sled! Tobogganing is a great way to let the kids have some fun and excitement this winter without much effort. All you need to do is grab a sled, head to your local tobogganing hill and see all the kids racing up and down. It’s great fun to get outside, feel the wind in your face, and enjoy the snow. Of course, this is an activity where adult supervision is required.

Try snowshoeing

Do something different this winter and try snowshoeing! Snowshoeing is great exercise for young and old, and is perfect for it’s low impact on the body. You may feel a little sore the next day however! Snowshoeing is also a great way to teach children about this ancient mode of transportation that has been perfected over thousands of years. Indigenous people around the world have used snowshoes to get from one place to another in the snow, and are an interesting way to explore the outdoors in the snow. This is an experience that the kids will never forget!

Take the kids ice-skating

Ice-skating is another great activity to make lasting memories this winter season. To make the most of the great outdoors, visit a lake to experience the beauty of skating in nature. Make sure that the ice is guaranteed to be safe and solid before venturing out for a skate. You will know it’s safe if you visit a lake that’s known to be a skating lake, and will most likely see lots of people out skating. Another great option is to visit an outdoor rink, where you can skate at night and even rent skates. Skating is a great thing to learn as a child, and will help them build confidence and learn a new skill!

One easy and foolproof way to let the kids enjoy the wonders of wintertime is by taking them out for a walk in the forest.
